The importance of micro adjustments during exercises

When performing any movement there are a lot of micro adjustments that occur even if your not aware of it. A micro adjustment is a slight adjustment that is made to make the exercise your performing feel more optimal. A good example of micro adjustments would be foot positioning when pulling sumo. Once you get into a good position with a solid stance and you feel the medial portion of your anterior tibialis touching the bar this is when the micro adjustments come into play. Its the small internal/external rotation of the foot, the heel to toe pressure adjustments, the rooting and floor spread etc that make the difference between getting into a sumo stance vs getting into your sumo stance. Not taking the time to make these micro adjustments could take away from your lifts potential. Your body makes these small adjustments is because there are certain improvements that your body can feel. Not everyone is going to have the same set up. We all have different hip and joint structures that make each exercise set up different. So it’s very important that you take the time so feel out each exercise’s set up and really analyze what feels right and what doesn’t. This process isn’t overnight, there are some exercises that might come more natural to you and others that might take more time to get used to but the important thing is that you continue to focus on what feels best for you.

“Lifters who get caught up in the love of training, who figure it is about how the weight is lifted and doing so with a cyclical amount of meaningful volume - These are the lifters who go on to be something.”
